Project proposal finalist for the $200m CERC research fund builds on the strengths of the CRPuO

Two University of Ottawa research proposals are finalists for a $200m research fund designed to attract some of the world's top researchers to Canada: the Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) program. One of the proposed projects would establish a Chair in Nanophotonics, which would build on its world-class Centre for Research in Photonics (CRPuO).

A total of 135 proposals were received last December and the CERC steering committee has selected 40 finalists that are now invited to compete in the second phase. The next step is to seek out leading researchers from around the world who are willing to move to Canada and supervise the projects. Up to 20 will be chosen, with the winners announced next February.

Each successful applicant will receive $10 million over seven years to establish ambitious research programs at Canadian universities.
